This is an album of free improvisations. Every track on this album was created without predetermining qualities of tempo, key, form, or structure. These performances are the fruit of the six and a half total hours of music recorded over three days in May 2009. Each track is a complete performance - at no point were two separate pieces fused together, and minimal edits were made within takes.
This album is an experiment in discovering what arises from spontaneous musical interaction - the aesthetic, the shared language, the emotions and means of expression that develop when two musicians improvise without guidelines. It reflects the individuals who made it - our relationships to ourselves and each other, our musical backgrounds and personal development.
When we improvise without idiomatic constraints, we create music that transcends traditions, reaching deeper spaces in our creative history to find the essence of our artistic yearnings. Through improvisation we come to terms with our very existence in a world that is ever-evolving and always in motion.
